1. When You Smile, the Whole World Smiles
Depending on your mood, it might be hard to find something to smile about. Well, fake it till you make it. The University of South Australia states just the act of moving your facial muscles to mimic smiling can trick your mind into being more positive.
“Who said there’s nothing for free these days? The only inflation a smile ever faced was on the face. And they also increase your face-value.”
Kim Myles
Do something that brings a smile to your face. Read your favorite book, watch a movie, or go to your ideal place, spend time with children, meditate; indulge yourself. There are many options depending on your taste. You only have to open up to let joy in. Your moods cannot change unless you are a willing participant. Happiness is a choice.
2. Dance to the Beat of Your Own Drum

Music has a powerful impact on our emotions. We respond to music on an emotional level. It is important to pick the right type of music to set your mood. Certain notes and tones played by various instruments can evoke different emotions. For instance, the major keys on the piano are best for creating peaceful or happy energies when composed. Music with lower pitches and rhythms encourages moods of sadness and depression.
Listening to music can have an immediate impact on your mood. Whether you are looking for peace of mind, motivation, upliftment, or to depress, it has the potential to influence or incite various emotions within us.
3. Don’t Be Frozen, Let it Go
Life isn’t always easy. Sometimes we might find comfort in indulging negative emotions that come with it. But it’s important to let some things go because it could be detrimental to your health. Being in stressful or negative states for lengthy periods can make you sick. Research from the National Center of Biotechnology Information (NCBI) shows stress can decrease your brain functions. It also says it may impair the immune system, increasing your chances for illnesses to seep in.
Holding on to stressful thoughts keeps you in a negative state. It’s impossible to improve your mood for the better while dwelling on things which make you feel down. Releasing unproductive ideas, habits, or patterns is crucial to usher fresh ones in.
4. Wax on, Wax off

Activities such as walking; jogging, dancing, or sports can improve your mood. Working out can help you work your way out of a bad mood. Walking 10-30 minutes/3 times a week can benefit your moods, as well as your mental health.
According to the U.S. Library of Medicine, exercise increases blood flow to the brain. The increase affects communication between the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis and the limbic system, which controls our moods. Exercising helps to regulate serotonin, which also affects your mood. If someone tells you to “take a hike” don’t get mad, do it. Thank them later for contributing advice that’s actually beneficial to your health.
5. Can We Talk?
Communicating your thoughts aloud to someone can be beneficial. If you choose to ruminate in a negative mood, it makes it difficult for you to reach out to others. Sometimes discussing what’s on your mind with another can bring a different perspective.

Some individuals may have the ability to improve your mood just by speaking with them. If there is something troubling you, it’s beneficial to share. You may not want to burden others with your problems. But you don’t want to be a problem to others because of what’s burdening you. Getting things “off your chest” clears the way for you to feel better and be at your best. When you lighten your load, it lightens your mood.
6. Dive in

Marine biologist Wallace Nichols states there are emotional advantages for people to be around water (oceans, pools, lakes, or a shower). The sound of water alone can help to improve your mood. It has a significant influence on our being because we are more fluid than flesh. Our bodies are more than 60% water.
It has many therapeutic healing properties. Water is also used to cleanse negative energy. There are many practices where water plays a significant role in relation to our well being. Hydrotherapy, Immersion Healing, Water Circuit Treatment, or Saunas are a few techniques available to restore balance in our minds and bodies.
“The mind is like water. When its turbulent, it’s difficult to see. When it’s calm, everything becomes clear.”
Prasad Mahes
